“It is a matter of the woman being comfortable, not stressed, in a place where she feels safe, without people fussing, without other people stressing, without anyone else trying to have her baby for her, no clocks, no timing, no telling her what her body already knows.”
What is hypnobirthing?
Hypnobirthing is a complete antenatal course specifically designed to teach women how to overcome their fears surrounding childbirth, so they can look forward to the birth of their child.
An essential part of hypnobirthing is learning how to enter a deep state of relaxation so that the labouring mother can ignore any distractions during the birth process, allowing her body to do what it already knows.
Hypnosis has been used in childbirth for decades, and is based on the work of Dr Grantley Dick-Read back in the 1930s, who discovered that it could significantly reduce pain in childbirth. Since the 1980s many more techniques have been developed which are now taught as part of a full hypnobirthing course.
Why does it work?
All the techniques learned during a hypnobirthing course will allow you to better understand exactly how the labouring body works and how to easily enter a state of deep relaxation to better enable the complex hormones to do their job.
